Doesn’t change anything at all. It’s just another aspect of who you are.

I’m intrigued by the misconceptions people have about people in the LGBT community. Like how your acquaintance thought you couldn’t be monogamous because you are bisexual. My mom thinks gay men also must be pedophiles. I believe I have her convinced she’s wrong about that one, but still it dumbfounds me where she even got the idea.

We must have had the same frame of mind about spending money – I said much of the same to myself. “If I buy this, I’m doing this, end of story. If I spend money now to get into a half marathon, there is no backing out.” I’m so glad that you’ve come to love running too…I always feel incredible when I come back from a run, mainly because of the sense of achievement and pride that I just ran X many miles in X degree weather!

Glad to have met you, Wendyrn…I hope you keep at it all the way towards a full marathon!

I wanted to stop by after you posted your link on the FB 0 to 13.1 training group page. You have a lovely blog here – I can’t wait to read more about your thoughts on adopting. I don’t have children right now and I always love reading new perspectives on motherhood and family. I can already tell I like your voice in this. Glad we are training together (My half marathon is in May! Yikes!) and I can’t wait to read more about you!

Thank you, Wendryn, for a thoughtful explanation of your intentions. I believe that you and your family are way better off unplugging from the “machine” (who built the stinkin’ machine in the first place?!). Congratulations on having the strength of character to withstand the relentless pressure to conform to “Christmas” as practiced in this country. It will be especially hard having a child in the mix. I think your approach shows far more interest and concern for others and will be one more way to teach your daughter by example how to live a good and moral life.

Your 4-day celebration is a fabulous idea. Even as someone who observes Christmas, I’ve become disillusioned by the commercialization of the season. It sounds like your family is celebrating in best possible way, by giving back to your family, friends and community… exactly how it should be for everyone, regardless of their religious affiliation.

Thanks for this post. I’m sorry that you had such a negative experience with (an apparently quite unethical) adoption facilitator. Still, I’m glad that you’ve got the potential for such a positive relationship with Katja’s birth family. That will serve her very very well. I’ve been an adoption social worker for several years & am bothered by the same things that bother you – social workers following bad agency policy & being overly directive with both parties involved. And somehow, it seems like you’ve developed a good situation in spite of a bad social worker. Well done!
